UN Women Executive Director calls for bold action to end violence against women and girls during AU Summit

Executive Director of UN Women, Michelle Bachelet, recently visited Ethiopia for the 20th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU). Ms. Bachelet advocated for bringing women and youth to the center of Pan-Africanism and the African Renaissance and the urgent need to prevent and eradicate violence against women and girls.

In Tanzania, a caravan of activists visits five regions over eight days on a journey to end violence against women

How ending violence against women and girls became my passion

A remarkable young man from Tanzania, 24-year-old Mwasapi Kihongosi won the global UNiTE T-shirt design competition in 2011, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in March 2012 and led a Caravan for Change against violence and harmful traditional practices in November 2012. Mwasapi tells us how the plight to end such forms of violence became his passion.
