Although women's human rights have advanced in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt), serious legal and cultural barriers in numerous aspects of women's daily life have prevented their rights from fully being realized.
(un)Equal Rights, (un)Equal Opportunities: 30 years of CEDAW, 30 Stories of Women in the occupied Palestinian territory is a poignant testimony of the harsh reality Palestinian women and girls face. Powerful and comprehensive, the publication is a collection of stories from women in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Through first-hand interviews, it explores the rights of Palestinian women with those set out by the international Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). Themes include: oppression of occupation; oppression of patriarchal norms; limited inheritance rights; domestic violence; limited economic rights; and discrimination in family relations.
This publication aims to give voice to the women and girls who dared to talk about discrimination, to make their stories heard and to draw attention to the requirements of developing specific measures and policies in order to elaborate effective actions to addressing gender discrimination.
