International Peace Institute, New York
UN Women, the United Nations Development Programme and The International Peace Institute (IPI) will host an event titled ‘Empowering Women in Post-Conflict Justice’ featuring the Principals for the Special Court for Sierra Leone: the President of the Special Court, Justice Shireen Avis Fisher; Prosecutor Brenda Hollis; Principal Defender Claire Carlton-Hanciles; and Registrar Binta Mansaray.
The Principals will discuss the work of the Special Court in the context of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 and will provide a unique and engaging perspective on translating the aims of UNSCR 1325 into practice, particularly in the context of a conflict in which women were victims and targets.
The forum will offer an opportunity for an in-depth discussion on the meaning of empowering women to fully participate in post-conflict justice and how this is actually achieved. Ms. Zainab Hawa Bangura, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict will be the discussant on the panel. Senior representatives from UN Women and the United Nations Development Programme will make introductory remarks at the event.
NOTE:This is an invitation only event.
