Launch of Regional Centre of Excellence on Gender Responsive Governance
03 October 2012
In South Asia, women form more than 50 per cent of the population. Yet women's participation in the decision-making process, especially in relation to representation at the different levels of governance is significantly lower. On 3 October, UN Women Executive Director, Michelle Bachelet will launch a unique Regional Centre of Excellence for elected women representatives at the local level during the National Leadership Summit hosted by the Government of India in Jaipur. The Regional Centre of Excellence on Gender Responsive Governance is meant to serve as a virtual network and resource centre for women leaders in South Asia, especially for those at the local level.
