Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka was appointed as the Executive Director of UN Women in July, and in August 2013 took charge of the organization, which leads the UN’s efforts towards women’s empowerment and gender equality. A human rights advocate throughout her life, Ms. Mlambo-Ngcuka has served in leadership positions in civil society and government, including as the Deputy President of South Africa, the first woman to hold that position. At her first press conference at the UN, she will speak about her vision for the organization and immediate priorities.
