Women’s groups galvanize for Financing for Development Conference

In Addis Ababa, ahead of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD), UN Women Deputy Executive Director, Lakshmi Puri, addressed opening remarks at the Women’s Forum on Financing for Gender Equality in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 10 July. The UN Women co-organized forum brought together representatives of the Ethiopian government, feminist organizations, and civil society, to discuss the feminist perspective within the wider framework of the FfD Conference, to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 13 to 16 July.

The Women’s Forum started with an opening plenary which highlighted the  the final stages of the FfD Conference negotiations revolving around the key issues at stake in the Addis Ababa Action Agenda (AAAA) from feminist and women’s human rights perspectives. The five sessions which followed during the  day, were presented as discussion meetings where participants exchanged ideas about thematic-focused recommendations to better prepare them for the engagement in the Civil Society Organization Forum and FfD Conference.
