World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

Date:

All forms of violence against women and girls, sexual exploitation and trafficking, are serious human rights violations. Evidence shows, every country across the world is affected by human trafficking — as a country of origin, transit or destination for victims. Women and girls constitute a disproportionate share of trafficking in persons, and remain more vulnerable to this crime than men, with persistent gender inequality as the root cause. In her message for the World Day against Trafficking in Persons UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka calls for ensuring that urgent efforts are undertaken to address this gross human rights violation.
