UN Women and Snapchat feature remarkable women in Live Story for International Women’s Day

Date:

For International Women’s Day, UN Women engaged in an innovative partnership with the popular mobile story-telling app Snapchat. A format called ‘Live Story’ featured remarkable women from all walks of life, and was shared with Snapchat’s 100 million—primarily young—users on 8 March.

The Live Story was opened by the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, and included, among many others, UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, National UN Women Ambassador Muniba Mazari from Pakistan, Dr. Erna Takazawa, the first and only optometrist in Samoa, and UN Women’s Youth Civil Society Advisor Alaa Murabit from Libya.

Users who watched the story in their app had a chance to contribute their own Snaps by using a special International Women’s Day overlay filter, telling their stories and honouring the remarkable women in their lives.
