UN Women inaugurates new Liaison Office in Abu Dhabi

UN Women inaugurated its Liaison Office for the Gulf region in Abu Dhabi, which aims to strengthen UN Women’s presence and ensure a robust and reinforced partnership with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The Liaison Office, the first of its kind in the Gulf region, will enable UN Women to support and accelerate efforts to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment that several Gulf States have been undertaking in the past two decades. Singer Balqees Fathi named UN Women Planet 50-50 champion for the Arab States region

UN Women announced the appointment of award-winning, Emirati-Yemeni singer Balqees Fathi as the first Planet 50-50 champion for the Arab States Region. In an agreement signed today, the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) committed to the opening of the new UN Women Liaison Office for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Abu Dhabi. As a founding member of the Gulf Cooperation Council, UAE has poised itself as forward looking country committed to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Seven days to coin a video ad for UN Women: YouTube opens contest ahead of Dubai Lynx Festival

Ahead of the Dubai Lynx International Festival of Creativity 2015, YouTube has posted a “7-Day Brief” which this year calls on creative professionals from across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to produce a campaign on behalf of UN Women. With the brief now live, contestants have until midday (Gulf Standard Time) on 21 January to create a video ad for YouTube which encourages viewers to donate and help UN Women establish hotlines across the MENA region for survivors of domestic violence.
