The Fund for Gender Equality (FGE) has achieved significant global results in its first and second grant-making cycles:

  • Nearly 10 million beneficiaries have been reached;
  • More than 23,000 women have seen their incomes increase;
  • Nearly 3,000 women gained leadership positions in the institutions that affect their lives;
  • Some 660 women were elected into national and local government positions;
  • At least 109 local and national gender-responsive policies raised by FGE programmes have been approved and adopted;
  • More than 9,000 women now own and control property and productive assets; and
  • More than 8,000 women have accessed credit and loans to support their businesses.

Moreover, significant results have been achieved by grantees at the country level:

  • In Brazil, a partnership between the NGO SOS Corpo – Instituto Feminista para la Democracia and the Secretariat for Women’s Policies resulted in the creation and passing of a new bill ensuring equal rights for domestic workers. Consequently, 6 million domestic workers now have the same rights, protections and access to services as other workers.
  • Indian NGO Gender at Work, through its programme “Dalit Women’s Livelihoods Accountability Initiative,” has raised the awareness of more than 100,000 scheduled caste women about their labour rights, leading to a 30 per-cent increase in the number of these women who claimed their work entitlements. Women employed as supervisors also increased from 1.2 per cent to 21 per cent.
  • To address the absence of youth from public life and the lack of youth structure in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), KULT Association in partnership with BH Experts Association worked with young women from disadvantaged rural municipalities to create an outreach and advocacy network. Though this network, they were able to partner with the government and implement youth-focused Gender Action Plans. The network also became the largest virtual association of the BiH youth community.
  • In Uganda, the work of the Forum on Women and Democracy on gender-responsive budgeting resulted in the allocation of USD 30 million for piped water supply systems in rural northern Uganda, benefiting more than 7.8 million women.
  • In Morocco, the Agence du Sud supported 600 women in the rural oasis communities to engage in local public life, by providing assets and credit to 90 women entrepreneurs who produced and sold 1.8 tons of capers.
