(English) “UN Results – Are we achieving them? How do we know?” was the title and focus of a high-level panel event organized by the United Nations Evaluation Group (UNEG) as part of its 2013 Evaluation Week from 15-19 April 2013 at UN Headquarters in New York.
(English) Experts call for increased efforts to improve maternal and newborn child health in Africa
(English) More than 50 government, civil society, academic and United Nations experts came together for a meeting coordinated by the African Union (AU) in partnership with UN Women from 24 to 26 April in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to review key frameworks and initiatives on maternal and newborn child health and recommend actions for reduction of maternal and child deaths in Africa.

(English) Acting Head and Assistant Secretary-General of UN Women Lakshmi Puri takes part in high-level meetings in Washington D.C. from 18-21 April, aimed at stepping up cooperation between the UN and the World Bank. On Friday she will discuss UN Women’s efforts to increase access to modern energy sources for women’s health facilities and services.
(English) Call for Applications: 2013 SEED Awards seek innovative projects on gender equality and women’s empowerment
(English) UN Women joins the European Union, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, the government of Flanders, the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the international law firm Hogan Lovells in supporting the SEED Award, an initiative that aims to help the most promising start-up entrepreneurs, women-led enterprises and other social and environmental inspiring businesses to integrate ideas and proposals to address pressing local issues.

(English) Following the announcement of her departure by Michelle Bachelet, founding Executive Director of UN Women, the UN Secretary-General has designated Lakshmi Puri, Assistant Secretary-General and UN Women Deputy Executive Director, as the Acting Head of the organization, until further notice. Ms. Puri will take on her new role with immediate effect.
