On the occasion of the twelfth anniversary of resolution 1325 and a successful drawdown of the UN Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT), the experience of Timorese women and men offers valuable insight into the critical role that women’s organizations play in consolidating peace and improving community security. In the transformative spirit of 1325, Timorese women have been at the forefront of efforts to enhance stability and lay the foundations for peace and prosperity in their country.
Speakers at this event will discuss the successes and challenges of women’s peace activism in Timor-Leste and make strategic recommendations for how to consolidate hard-won gains in the wake of mission drawdown.
The Side Event will also mark launch of a new lecture series on Women, Peace and Security organized by the Permanent Mission of the Principality of Liechtenstein to the United Nations in New York in close partnership with the Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination (LISD) at Princeton University, and the PeaceWomen Project of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. The series will support implementation efforts and awareness-raising through a series of panel discussions in New York followed by lectures at Princeton University.
