UN Women Strategic Plan 2026–2029

UN Women is the global lead for women’s rights, gender equality, and the empowerment of all women and girls. Our Strategic Plan 2026–2029 comes at a pivotal moment, as the world is failing women and girls on every measure of gender equality in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Yet our commitment to make the world a better place for all women and girls remains unshaken. Our mandate has never been more relevant. Guided by the vision and energy of women’s rights movements and governments committed to gender equality, we are charting a path forward for peace, people, and planet. With clarity and courage, we will realize a world of equality, empowerment, and rights for all women and girls.

Triple mandate

UN Women Strategic Plan 2026–2029 – Triple mandate

UN Women’s triple mandate is unique. We help countries set gender equality norms and standards, collaborate with partners to turn commitments into better lives for women and girls, and marshal UN system–wide support to amplify action. This “policy-to-practice” loop shapes global norms and standards based on local realities, driving change that begins in communities and extends worldwide. The Strategic Plan 2026–2029 fully leverages our triple mandate, deepening support for national and international institutions to adopt and implement laws and policies. With integrated programming that unites diverse partners and interrelated issues, we aim for ambitious scale and lasting impact.

Changes for women and girls

Norms, laws, and policies

Norms, laws, and policies

UN Women supports countries to align laws and policies with global norms and standards on gender equality and women’s rights, translating them into real change for women and girls. We monitor progress, provide evidence through research and data, and support advancements across intergovernmental forums.

Outcome 2: Accountable institutions

Accountable institutions

UN Women partners with governments, parliaments, civil society, the UN system, the private sector, and others to advance gender equality and women’s rights. We bolster institutional accountability through data, financing, and practices that promote positive social norms. We unlock public resources and align capital flows with gender equality goals.

Outcome 3: Women and girl’s agency and access to resources

Women’s agency and access to resources

UN Women works to ensure that all women and girls can exercise their voice and agency, and claim their rights to access resources, assets, and quality services. We strengthen networks and movements, amplifying women’s collective power. Our funding models invest in women’s organizations as agile, expert, and innovative advocates for change.
