On 24 December 2022, the Taliban banned women from working in international and national non-governmental organizations, the latest attack in a series of systematic infringements on the fundamental rights of women and girls since August 2021. Developed two weeks after the ban, this gender alert analyses the impact of the directive through the insights of Afghan women’s civil society organizations.

The project supports the promotion of women’s rights through the integration of gender perspectives in efforts to prevent violent extremism. This support is through increase participation of women in security and preventing violent extremism discourse in different platforms and relevant mechanisms. Through this evaluation, the Independent Evaluation Service assessed the criteria of coherence and coordination, effectiveness, organizational efficiency, sustainability, and the extent to which a human rights approach and gender equality principles were integrated into National Action Plans to meet women, peace, and security commitments and adopt accountability frameworks in conflict and post-conflict countries.

This report summarizes the discussions and outcomes of the Global Civil Society Dialogue that took place in New York on 23–24 November 2015. The Dialogue brought together Civil Society Advisory Group members as well as other civil society, social justice, and gender equality stakeholders from each region of the world, to discuss prioritized actions with the aim of eliciting concrete and innovative recommendations for the accelerated achievement of the gender equality agenda by 2030.
