This brochure summarizes UN Women’s Strategic Note (SN) for Türkiye, 2022–2025, which provides a roadmap for improving the lives of women and girls in Türkiye. The SN articulates UN Women’s multi-year strategy, rationale, envisioned results, targets, and resource requirements for the next four years.

This report marks the fourth monitoring cycle of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee’s (IASC) 2017 “Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in humanitarian action policy”. It provides a snapshot of the IASC’s output in the calendar year 2021 and allows for cross-comparison with the baseline established with the 2018 Gender Accountability Framework (GAF) report and the subsequent 2019 and 2020 reports.

The priority theme of the 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women is “Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”. This publication includes findings and recommendations of the Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the priority theme; summaries of EGM background papers, expert papers, and informational notes; and analysis of relevant normative frameworks.

UN Women’s founding resolution mandates the organization to ensure accountability and gender mainstreaming across the UN system for its work to advance the achievement of gender equality and the advancement of women. This report shares best practices and reflections on the multiple forms this mandate takes at the global, regional, and country levels, also identifying drivers that catalyse and enhance impact.

This report presents key results achieved by UN Women in close collaboration with partners across crisis and disaster contexts in 2021. Against a backdrop of more complex crises and increasing needs, the report captures UN Women’s efforts at the global, regional, and field levels in advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

Annually, Gender Focal Points meet to exchange good practices and are recognized for achievements in advancing gender parity across the UN system in their respective entities. This report summarizes the Global Annual Gender Focal Point Meeting held on 17–19 October 2022. Gender Focal Points joined virtually from duty stations and remote working environments all around the world.

This booklet celebrates the achievements of the System-wide Strategy on Gender Parity and the progress made since 2017. It demonstrates how joint efforts in UN entities will bring about concrete results, better working environments, and gender parity and equality. Entities across the United Nations have reached significant milestones, such as updated policies and practices to attract, recruit, and promote women, and improved work environments to support greater inclusion.

This guidance note is part of a series of guidance notes on gender analysis in technical areas that seeks to contribute towards gender mainstreaming. The focus in this guide is the thematic area of energy infrastructure, which is a sector dominated by men and where gender analysis can provide vital data to practitioners on the key entry points for integrating gender equality and social inclusion into energy infrastructure projects.

This UN Women submission was prepared in response to a call for inputs from the UN Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, for his Report on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Peace and Security.

The country portfolio evaluation (CPE) represents a key source of evaluative knowledge that generates evidence of UN Women’s contribution to development effectiveness with respect to gender equality and the empowerment of women at the country level. The guide is intended for use during all stages of a CPE, providing a framework for planning and managing CPEs, along with practical guidance and methodological rigor for the assessment of Strategic Notes.

This action kit is a practical tool directed to actors who want to build an effective system for integrating gender responsive budgeting into the annual state budget process, such as Members of Parliament (MPs), parliamentary staff, committees, caucuses of women MPs, and other actors, including UN Women or other United Nations entities who may want to initiate and support a stronger role for parliaments in gender responsive budgeting.

The project supports the promotion of women’s rights through the integration of gender perspectives in efforts to prevent violent extremism. This support is through increase participation of women in security and preventing violent extremism discourse in different platforms and relevant mechanisms. In addition to expanding the knowledge base on gender and violent extremism by conducting localized research and systematic awareness-raising activities, inclusion of women-led grassroots and CSOs in various inter-governmental processes aiming to prevent violent extremism.

This UN Women submission was prepared in response to a call for inputs in March 2022 from the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court to support the development of a policy on gender persecution.

The war in Ukraine has had devasting impact on women and girls worldwide, widening gender gaps, and increasing rates of food insecurity, malnutrition, and energy poverty. This policy paper reviews the available evidence, recommending urgent attention to its consequences for women and girls. It is complementary to the briefs produced by the UN Secretary-General’s Global Crisis Response Group on the consequences of the war in Ukraine and the global response and recovery.

TRAMSFORM issue 24 features the corporate evaluation of UN Women’s apporach to innovation. In recent years, UN Women has increased its focus on innovation, based on the recognition that innovation and technology frequently do not benefit men and women equally, but can potentially be leveraged for women’s empowerment. This evaluation assessed what innovation means for UN Women, its innovation initiatives and the systems, and culture to support innovation.

This report showcases global trends in media reporting on gender-based violence and mapped existing evidence on the relationship between news media reporting of gender-based violence against girls and the normalization of violence. Furthermore, the “10 essentials for gender and age-sensitive media reporting of violence against girls” and the report recommend frameworks and principles to practice a gender and age-sensitive reporting of violence against girls.

TRANSFORM Issue 23 summraizes the Corporate Evaluation on UN Women’s work on policy advocacy. Policy advocacy work is central to UN Women’s mission of promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. The UN Women Independent Evaluation Service led this evaluation to assess UN Women’s policy advocacy efforts, understand what has worked well and identify how UN Women’s policy advocacy work can be strengthened around the world.

Drawing on evidence and the Luxembourg Income Study Database, this policy brief highlights the importance of child support for lone-mother families and factors that may prevent lone mothers from receiving this transfer. It makes a series of recommendations to ensure regular and adequate child support is provided.

Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 74/235 on women in development, in the present report, the Secretary-General considers global evidence and trends and reviews and assesses measures taken at the national level, since 2019, regarding gender-responsive poverty eradication, social protection, and labour market policies; women’s labour and human rights and ending gender-based discrimination; women’s entrepreneurship; women’s and girls’ unpaid care and domestic work and women’s paid care work; gender-based violence and sexual harassment; universal access to healthcare services, including sexual and reproductive health; and the right to education throughout the life cycle, taking into account the impacts of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic in these areas.

This publication is a collaboration between the UN Women’s Independent Evaluation Service and the United Nations University International Institute for Global Health to explore the link between Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 and SDG 5 (gender equality), as part of a system of interconnected SDGs and indicators within these goals.
