This document sets out the evaluation policy of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). The policy governs the independent evaluation function of UN Women and applies to all initiatives supported and funds administered by the Entity.
What can we learn from UN Women evaluations? A meta-analysis of evaluations managed by UN Women in 2014
This analysis constitutes the second synthesis of UN Women–commissioned evaluations since the adoption of the current Strategic Plan (2014–2017). The focus of this report is learning. Evidence from a total of 21 evaluation reports completed in 2014 from across the UN Women regions and HQ was included in the analysis, representing at least 51 countries (some reports were multi-country, regional, or corporate). Additional corroborating lessons were included from 23 evaluations completed in 2013.
UN Women, in partnership with the United Nations Evaluation Group, EvalPartners, EvalGender+ and International Organization for Cooperation in Evaluation, commissioned a review of the policies, systems and practices in place to promote gender-responsive evaluation. This review takes stock of existing gender-responsive evaluation systems within the United Nations and Member States and provides information on the opportunities to strengthen these systems in the future, individually and collectively.
