This rapid assessment examines how the impacts of COVID-19 are threatening women’s ability to access justice. The assessment reflects challenges faced by women and girls of diverse backgrounds and socio-economic groups, including those experiencing overlapping disadvantages and those facing amplified challenges in humanitarian settings. Cross-regional and local experiences are highlighted, and quantitative data is utilized where available.

Access to justice for women is at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with its commitments to gender equality and to peaceful, just, and inclusive societies. This report provides a better understanding of common justice problems facing women and makes the case for increased investments in strategies that work to bring justice closer to women.

UN Women, UNODC, and the UNFCCC Secretariat organized an expert group meeting (EGM) on the gender perspectives of SDGs 10, 13, and 16 on 27–28 February 2019, in Vienna. The EGM report and recommendations are an input to the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and highlight key strategies to be taken by governments, with the support of other stakeholders, to reduce inequalities, tackle climate change, and promote peaceful societies.
