The project supports the promotion of women’s rights through the integration of gender perspectives in efforts to prevent violent extremism. This support is through increase participation of women in security and preventing violent extremism discourse in different platforms and relevant mechanisms. In addition to expanding the knowledge base on gender and violent extremism by conducting localized research and systematic awareness-raising activities, inclusion of women-led grassroots and CSOs in various inter-governmental processes aiming to prevent violent extremism.

This paper provides a brief overview of the existing data and evidence on online and technology facilitated VAWG, outlines some of the key developments, gaps, challenges, and emerging promising practices, and makes recommendations to be considered by governments, international organizations, civil society organizations, and the technology sector.

At the 2021 Generation Equality Forum, world leaders and partners committed to eliminating gender inequalities and to financing and implementing laws, policies, and programmes to meet priority actions and targets in a Global Acceleration Plan for Gender Equality. Through a survey of commitment-makers, this report sheds light on the nature of the commitments made and assesses measurable progress. It highlights trends and notes where more work is needed.

Using examples of work in 2021 and achievements over the first ten years of the organization, the 2021 report highlights how regular resources remain the bedrock for UN Women to fulfill its unique mandate and make a difference in the lives of women and men around the world.

This publication addresses the importance of having a proactive gender-responsive framework for countering terrorism and preventing violent extremism. This edition of the “UN Women impact stories” series features six briefs aligned with each of the Generation Equality Action Coalition themes, to mark the Generation Equality Forum in Paris, 30 June – 2 July 2021. The Action Coalitions are global, innovative, multi-stakeholder partnerships that are mobilizing governments, civil society, international organizations, and the private sector to deliver tangible impact on gender equality and women and girls’ human rights by 2026.

This training manual is designed for actors involved in the prevention and countering of violent extremism (P/CVE) in Europe and Central Asia including state officials, members of non-governmental organizations, community activists, staff of UN agencies, international and regional organizations to help them understand violent extremism’s gender dimensions.

This report was produced by UN Women following the global digital consultation on the gendered dimensions of violent extremism and counterterrorism responses (25 May – 5 July 2020), organized on behalf of the Gender Working Group of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact. It reflects the views expressed by civil society participants in the consultation, and it was presented to Member States ahead of the 7th UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy revision, 2021.

UN Women and UPDP commissioned this research volume of expert analyses to explore how unequal gender power structures, including masculinity, fuel and shape violent extremism in South and Southeast Asia.

On the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, using striking images and bold typography, this series of posters contrasts key gaps with concrete actions to close them, sending a graphic message that the commitments made 25 years ago can and must be met. The posters echo the call across generations of feminists, from those just joining the movement to those who brought Beijing to life.
