In 2014, the Inspection and Evaluation Division of the Office of Internal Oversight Services undertook an evaluation of UN Women’s normative work. The objective of the evaluation was to determine, as systematically and objectively as possible, the relevance and effectiveness of UN Women in achieving its mandate in support of gender equality through normative support work and its link with operational activities.

This publication documents grass-roots women’s perceptions and experiences of corruption in developing countries and bring this to important discourses regarding anti-corruption, gender equality and women’s empowerment. This study brings attention to the lack of research on the gendered impact of corruption on poor communities, provides some initial insights from grass-roots women and contribute to anti-corruption programming by prioritizing grass-roots women’s voices.

This publication is the result of extensive consultations and a response to the call for clear policy and practical guidance for mainstreaming gender perspectives into disaster risk reduction. It offers much-needed policy and practical guidelines for national and local governments to further implement the Hyogo Framework for Action.
