International Women's Day
International Women's Day is a global celebration observed every year on 8 March. UN Women marks the occasion with a different yearly theme that shines a light on key issues for women and gender equality. In past editions UN Women has called for supporting women in leadership, digital inclusion and sustainable development. The 2024 theme is Invest in women: Accelerate progress.
16 Days of Activism to End Violence against Women and Girls
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual, global campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. The campaign was started by activists at the inauguration of the Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991. It is used by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
UNiTE! End Violence against Women Campaign
The UNITE to End Violence against Women initiative is a multiyear effort to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls around the world. The initiative, launched in 2008 under the leadership of the UN Secretary-General, aims to bolster the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence campaign driven by civil society around the world.
Generation Equality
Generation Equality is the world’s leading initiative to accelerate investment and implementation on gender equality. It brings together organizations from every part of society to catalyze progress, advocate for change and take bold actions together.
Convened by UN Women, the initiative aims to ensure that the bold ambitions of the 1995 Beijing Platform for Action on women’s rights are finally implemented, and that the Sustainable Development Goals are achieved. Generation Equality also aims to expand public support for gender equality, with a particular focus on catalyzing the energy, activism and ideas of young people.
HeForShe
HeForShe is an action-oriented movement towards gender equality invites men and women around the world to stand together to create a bold, visible force for gender equality. Since its launch on 20 September 2014, hundreds of thousands of men from around the world, including Heads of State, CEOs and global luminaries, have committed to gender equality.
