UN Women Executive Board convenes 2015 Annual Session

The UN Women Executive Board will convene for this year’s Annual Session from 30 June to 2 July at United Nations headquarters in New York.
On the opening day, the President of the Executive Board and Chair of the session, Ambassador Ib Petersen from the Permanent Mission of Denmark, will give opening remarks. He will be followed by UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, who will present the organization’s 2014-2015 Annual Report and open the Board’s first analysis and discussion of progress towards UN Women’s Strategic Plan 2014-2017.
The following day, UN Women speakers will elaborate on the challenging realities of guaranteeing adequate funding for the organization, with Members and observers then taking part in a pledging event.
The Executive Board will consider the evaluation function of UN Women, additional analysis of UN Women’s contribution to women’s economic empowerment, as well as a review of policies and practices to promote gender-responsive evaluations. Reports on internal audit and investigation activities in 2014 will be presented and the Executive Board will take a first look at the draft integrated budget for 2016-2017.
On 2 July, special briefings will provide insight, context and analysis of UN Women’s response in Afghanistan, including through a slideshow and video that includes interviews with beneficiaries of programmes to eliminate violence against women, achieve political and economic empowerment as well as for coordination and advocacy. Also that day, feedback on the first-ever field visit of an Executive Board Bureau will highlight UN Women’s collaboration with the Government of Viet Nam, including through a video on the delegation’s visit to the cities of Hanoi, Da Nang and Hue.
During another informal briefing, the findings of the Multilateral Organization Performance Assessment Network will also be presented.
