Nesrine Charikhi is a radio reporter from Algiers, the capital of Algeria. In 2017, she took part in a training on gender-sensitive reporting for journalists organized by UN Women in partnership with the Algerian Ministry of Communication. One year later, Charikhi explains how the training has helped her change her way of reporting on violence against women and girls, especially through her radio show, “At the Heart of Society”.

The European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) are co-chairing the second conference on 'Supporting the future of Syria and the region', which will take place in Brussels from 24 to 25 April. At the sidelines of the conference, UN Women, together with the European Union, UNFPA, Kvinna till Kvinna, Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, CARE International and Oxfam, is organizing a side event, where ten Syrian women will present their distinct perspectives on the conflict.

Green, open spaces where everyone can convene, relax and take a break may be taken for granted in some parts of the world. For women and girls in Al-Shoka, a conflict affected neighbourhood in Gaza, this was a distant dream, until now. It took three female architects and a group of young people to rebuild the only public garden in Al-Shoka, since it was destroyed during the 2014 conflict.
