Expert Group Meeting report: Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls

The priority theme of the 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67) is “Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”. This publication is intended to inform the deliberations of the Commission and includes:

  • Findings and recommendations of the Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the priority theme, which was held from 10 to 13 October 2022. The EGM comprised 45 experts representing a broad range of organizations, disciplines, and geographic and societal realities. An accompanying glossary of terms supports understanding of key concepts related to the priority theme.
  • Summaries of a series of background papers, expert papers, and informational notes prepared especially for the EGM, exploring various facets of the theme. These address key trends and knowledge gaps and frame concrete recommendations for policies to be implemented at the international, regional, national, and local levels.
  • An analysis of the existing normative frameworks on gender perspectives in technology and innovation, to support the Commission in its deliberations and development of its Agreed Conclusions.

The publication’s aim is to provide a wealth of expert information on this critical topic with a broad range of recommendations for all actors, to ensure that women and girls—irrespective of their gender, age, race, disability, geographic location, country of origin, or economic background—have an equal opportunity to safely and meaningfully access, use, lead, and design technology.
