UN Women National Goodwill Ambassador, Mexico

On 3 March 2020, actress and singer Ximena Sariñana was launched as the first UN Women National Goodwill Ambassador for Mexico. In this role, the artist has carried out a series of digital activations and has joined UN Women’s events and communication campaigns using her platforms and her work to promote the human rights of women and girls. She has become a key spokesperson to promote co-responsibility in care work, as well as the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls in Mexico and Latin America.

About Ms. Sariñana

Ximena Sariñana is a Mexican actress and singer with more than 20 years of experience in the artistic field. She has participated in films, television programmes, and music festivals of national and international stature. She has recorded five albums, and she is currently working on her sixth. She has been nominated for one Grammy Award, and six Latin Grammy Awards. She won the MTV Miaw Change Agent Award in 2019 and has been nominated for several MTV awards.

In 2024, Ximena created HERA, an all-women lead massive music festival that celebrated the creativity, work and empowerment of women within the entertainment industry. The first edition of the festival welcomed thousands of people in Mexico City.

Ximena has collaborated with UN Women since 2016. She has participated in different institutional communication campaigns including for International Women’s Day, UNiTE! 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence, and Generation Equality. As National Goodwill Ambassador for Mexico, Ximena has engaged with programmes like Moving Forward Equality and Second Chance Education, meeting participants and witnessing first-hand the impact the programmes have had on their lives.
