UN Women Executive Director Michelle Bachelet visits Haiti

On 22nd October, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women, Michelle Bachelet, undertook a one-day official visit to Haiti where she met with members of the national government, and civil society to advocate for gender equality and women's empowerment.

In the capital city of Port-au-Prince, Ms. Bachelet, met the President of Haiti, Joseph Michel Martelly. Ms.Bachelet also held a working session with seven senior women ministers of the Government, among them the Minister of Women's Affairs and Women's Rights, Marie Yannick Mezile. Topics discussed included advancing the cooperation with UN Women to expand gender accountability in public policies implemented by the Government.

During her visit, she held discussions with members of the civil society, composed of women's leaders working on advancing gender rights and improving women's status and conditions. Ms. Bachelet will be accompanied by UN Women Regional Director of Latin America and the Caribbean Moni Pizani.
