NGO Participation

The active participation of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is a critical element in the work of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). NGOs have been influential in shaping the current global policy framework on women’s empowerment and gender equality: the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. They continue to play an important role in holding international and national leaders accountable for the commitments they made in the Platform for Action.

UN Women facilitates the participation of NGOs in sessions of the CSW. NGOs that are accredited to and in good standing with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) may designate representatives to attend the annual sessions of the CSW. The number of representatives who can attend open official meetings can be contingent on the availability of space.

This year, a new platform is used for NGO registration to meetings and events at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The platform is called Indico, and it replaces the registration functionality of the previous system, CSO-Net. In Indico, each CSW participant registers herself/himself individually, for reasons of increased online security. Conference Focal Points of non-governmental organizations then approve the individual registrations of their representatives.

CSW62 registration for NGOs in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is open from 6 November 2017 to 27 January 2018 online. Please ask your representatives to register early, as it will take time to become familiar with the new registration system. Online registration is mandatory for all participants. We are not able to accept registrations by e-mail.

We acknowledge that the transition to a new system is challenging; please find below step-by-step instructions for the new registration process in Indico. Please give yourself sufficient time and register for CSW62 as early as you can.

Find here a brief video tutorial on how to register for CSW62:

Please note: After you have registered for CSW62 via Indico, your organization’s conference focal point needs to approve your CSW registration in Indico. Once your registration has been approved by your organization, you will receive a confirmation letter via email. You will need to print out and show your confirmation letter to obtain a UN grounds pass for CSW.
