Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka welcomes the launch of the UN Women National Committee in France

The Executive Director of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, today welcomed the launch of the UN Women National Committee in France. Joining the 16 other existing National Committees, the latter will help advocate for gender equality and the empowerment of women as well as raise funds for the implementation of UN Women activities worldwide.

“We at UN Women wish the UN Women National Committee in France all the very best at the beginning of this journey,” said the Executive Director of UN Women. “We very much look forward to working closely with our newest National Committee for UN Women to advance women's rights, women's empowerment and gender equality worldwide.”

At an event held in Paris in the presence of journalists, the Chair of the UN Women National Committee in France, Miren Bengoa, outlined the various lines of action that the team will work to implement. The first priority will be to communicate about UN Women activities in France and its territories. The Committee will also develop advocacy and awareness on gender equality and women’s rights for the French population and help mobilize resources to assist in the financing of UN Women programmes worldwide.

“Founded under the statute of association of French law, the Committee is recognized by UN Women as a vehicle to raise awareness and advocacy in France,” said Ms. Bengoa. “The goal of the UN Women National Committee in France is to defend issues related to the human rights of women, such as the participation and leadership of women in social, political and economic spheres as well as the fight against all forms of violence against women,” she said.
