UN Women Executive Board convenes its first regular session 2019

The UN Women Executive Board will convene for this year’s first regular session on 12 February at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The President of the Executive Board, H.E. Pennelope Althea Beckles, Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Nations, will open the Session and UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will deliver her statement to the Members States.

The Board will then be updated on the implementation of UN General Assembly resolution 72/279 on the Repositioning of the United Nations Development System, followed by an extensive discussion with the Board members on the way forward.

The Executive Board will consider the Report of the Board of Auditors on the financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2017 and UN Women’s management response.

UN Women will present an oral update on its new Global Evaluation Strategy, 2018-2021, in accordance with the Executive Board’s decision 2018/2 on the Report on the Evaluation Function of UN Women 2017.

In addition, there will be several briefings on matters related to policy and programmes, on the operational response of UN Women in Iraq as well as on UN Women’s knowledge management.

At the request of Member States, additional informal briefings will be held on Wednesday, 13 February on the following topics:

  • UN Women’s Global Initiative “Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces”;
  • UN Women’s role in enhancing gender parity; and
  • An update on UN Women's efforts and plans towards the elimination of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Sexual Harassment
