UN Women Deputy Executive Director Åsa Regnér on first official visit to the Republic of Korea

UN Women Deputy Executive Director Åsa Regnér will be on her first official visit to Seoul, Republic of Korea, from 13 to 14 September 2018. The visit is intended to continue building an already strong partnership with the Republic, aimed at achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment, both at home and abroad.
She will be speaking at the 12th session of the Seoul ODA International Conference, on the importance of development cooperation and the official development assistance (ODA) in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women, and providing key policy recommendations.
During her visit, Ms. Régner will also meet with several Republic of Korea senior government officials, including President of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Mikyung Lee, Minister for Gender Equality and Family (MOGEF) Hyun-back Chung, Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Kang Jeong-sik, as well as participate in a townhall with local students at Ewha University.

Ms. Regnér spoke during the session on “the role of inclusive ODA by realizing human rights and gender equality” at the 12th ODA International Conference in Seoul, the Republic of Korea on 13 September.

During her visit, Ms. Régner met with several Republic of Korea senior government officials, including President of Korea International Cooperation Agency Mikyung Lee, Minister for Gender Equality and Family Hyun-back Chung, Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kang Jeong-sik.
Later, the Deputy Executive Director spoke about the economic and political empowerment of young women at the Ewha W. University, and participated in a discussion with students.
