Economic and Social Council
The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) discusses global economic, social and environmental challenges. It coordinates the related work of UN entities and regional commissions, as well as of its subsidiary bodies, particularly its functional commissions.
With regard to gender equality and the empowerment of women, the Council reviews the work of the Commission on the Status of Women and takes action as necessary, and integrates gender equality considerations in other discussions. The Council also considers gender equality issues under a dedicated agenda item on mainstreaming a gender perspective into all policies and programmes of the UN system, annually.
