Gender Equality for Sustainable Business, 6 March 2012
Nearly 400 chief executives worldwide have publicly declared their commitment to implementing the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) over the last two years, as UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and UN Women Executive Director Michelle Bachelet highlighted on 6 March 2012 at the 4th Annual Equality Means Business Event. Joining nearly 200 business leaders and representatives from civil society, governments and the United Nations, they marked the second anniversary of this initiative, which provides a roadmap for business to empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community.

56th Session of CSW: Opening and General Discussion
Welcome to CSW56
Marjon Kamara, Permanent Representative of Liberia to the United Nations and Chair of the 56th session of the Commission on the Status of Women welcomes everyone to this year's session. The session opens 27 February 2012 at UN headquarters in New York and focuses on the theme of empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, sustainable development and current challenges. Meetings and events will take place at UN headquarters from Monday 27 February to Friday 9 March 2012. Information, news coverage and live webcasts will be available on the CSW section of the UN Women website.
Lilly Be'Soer - Voice for Change - Papua New Guinea
Lilly Be'Soer Kolts is the founder of the women's human rights NGO, Voice for Change, in Papua New Guinea. She has been a victim of tribal conflict and also a survivor of polygamous marriage. She is currently raising six children alone. She defines herself as “a women's human rights defender and has taken a lead in facilitating mediation tribal conflicts and wars in Papua New Guinea.
In 2010, she was awarded a Pacific Human Rights Defenders Award. This year, she successfully coordinated a peace reconciliation to resettle 500 internally displaced families and is also facilitating a drug surrender programme for youths in her local district. Be'Soer is currently the General-Secretary of the newly established regional network Highlands Regional Human Rights Defenders Network. She was also a panelist at the 56th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women at United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Colombia: Wayuu Gold, Fighting for Access to Fresh Water
In some parts of the world it's as rare as gold — and getting a hold of some, nearly impossible. To one of Colombia's largest indigenous groups, the Wayuu, that gold is fresh water. Soon their water will be siphoned from Wayuu lands through new pipes to a nearby town, where the population is not indigenous. As struggles for ethnic rights, such as access to water, are recreated across the country, the community deals with an additional strain on their resources — climate change. Due to a changing climate, water has become even scarcer, leaving the community without a wet season for up to two years at times — before they would at least get this yearly. This documentary tracks one extraordinary woman fighting for her community's very survival.
