UN Women Executive Director Michelle Bachelet to focus on public policies and legislation that promotes women’s rights during trip to Colombia

UN Women Executive Director Michelle Bachelet begins an official visit to Colombia on 12 September and will take part in the presentation of the National Public Policy Guidelines for Gender Equality for Women, a document drawn up through consultations with women's organizations in Colombia, by the High Presidential Council for Women's Equality and with the support of UN Women.

During her visit to Colombia, Ms. Bachelet will hold a series of keynote meetings, including with the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, and with government ministers, members of the Congress, the judiciary, and a cluster of women's organizations. Attending some of these meetings will be Babatunde Osotimehin, the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

During her visit Ms. Bachelet will draw attention to the progress that has been achieved by Colombia vis a vis public policies and legislation that serve to promote women's rights. Ms. Bachelet will underscore the commitment by Colombia's achievements in this area, specifically in regard to the implementation of the Public Policy for the Gender Equality of Women.
