UN Women To Set Up Civil Society Advisory Groups at Global, Regional and National Level

To facilitate regular dialogue between civil society and UN Women, at the opening of the 56th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women Executive Director Michelle Bachelet announced the establishment of the UN Women Global Civil Society Advisory Groups. The Advisory groups will be formed at the global, regional and national levels, and will be based on wide consultation with civil society networks and with nominations from civil society organizations.

The Advisory Groups will comprise individuals who have proven track records of work on the ground in areas related to gender equality and women's empowerment. The Groups will be diverse, geographically balanced and drawn from global, regional, and national gender equality networks, women's groups, academia as well as other non-governmental and grass-roots organizations.

To facilitate their communication, the Advisory Groups at the global, regional and national levels will be provided with web-based platforms to engage with each other and UN Women's senior management.
