Expanding jobs for rural women in India

In India, a two-year programme, supported by UN Women's Fund for Gender Equality (FGE), is tackling the feminization of poverty and hunger among Dalit women. Since 2009, UN Woman has been connecting women in eight districts of Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh with their rights under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) of 2005, while increasing their control over earnings and decision-making. For many women this means healthier lives and livelihoods.
