The staff of UN Women enthusiastically welcomes the appointment of Michelle Bachelet as the first Executive Director and Under-Secretary-General of UN Women.

With her high political stature and experience, the former President of Chile will be able to advance the gender equality agenda and guide the organization's work, so that UN Women becomes the leading voice and champion for gender equality and the empowerment of women. Colleagues from the four entities that compose UN Women ? DAW, INSTRAW, OSAGI and UNIFEM ? are very inspired by the example of leadership that Michelle Bachelet set in her role as the first female President in Chile, and by her impressive record on behalf of women.

All staff members are looking forward to working with her and pledge their full support.
