Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations and Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, and UN Under-Secretary-General and UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will brief the press on 10 March about the upcoming 60th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women. The Commission is the single-largest forum for the advancement of the women’s empowerment agenda.

The forthcoming CSW60, to be held from 14-24 March, is the first to take place within the new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The priority theme will be women’s empowerment and its link to sustainable development, and the review theme is ending violence against women and girls. This year over 8,100 NGO representatives have registered for the meeting, and a record 208 events are scheduled, about 150 of them in the first week of CSW alone. Alongside this, NGOs will organize 450 parallel events in the vicinity of the UN.
