UN Women Executive Board to convene second regular session of 2020

In recognition of the 10-year anniversary of UN Women and the role of Member States and key partners in its work, a special commemorative informal side event will take place immediately ahead of the opening of the Executive Board’s second regular session on 15 September 2020, from 8.15– 9.50 a.m. EDT.

Thereafter, the President of the UN Women Executive Board, Jukka Salovaara, Permanent Representative of Finland to the United Nations, will declare this year’s second regular session open at 10 a.m EDT. UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, will deliver opening remarks. 

UN Women will present the following:

  • The Report on the Structured Dialogue on Financing, which contributes to the ongoing dialogue on the financing of the development and organizational effectiveness and efficiency results of the current UN Women Strategic Plan, 2018–2021.
  • A joint comprehensive proposal on the cost recovery policy in response to respective Board decisions (UNDP, UNFPA, UNOPS, UNICEF and UN Women).
  • A road map for consultations planned in the preparation of the next Strategic Plan, 2022–2025
  • An update on the implementation of the Common Chapter of the strategic plans.
  • A joint response of the Executive Board secretariats of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS, UNICEF and UN Women on the working methods of the Executive Boards.
  • The findings of a meta-synthesis of evaluations conducted in 2019 and its management perspective.

The language of the revised Evaluation Policy, in line with that of the Strategic Plan, 2018 – 2021, will also be submitted for the endorsement of the Executive Board under this agenda item.

In addition, the Chair of the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS and UN Women Staff Council will address the Executive Board, which will be accompanied by a response on the related management action.

An informal briefing will be held virtually on 17 September, from 11.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on UN Women’s work for women and girls with disabilities in the joint response to COVID-19 crisis.
