CSW65 preparations

Several preparatory meetings were held and inputs were received prior to the sixty-fifth session of the Commission on the Status of Women


Regional consultation in the African region prior to CSW65

UN-Women, the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) convened the “Africa ministerial pre-consultative meeting on CSW65” virtually on 26 February 2021. The consultation was attended by Ministers of Gender and Women’s Affairs, Senior Government Officials, teams of experts from Government and civil society representatives. Member States strategized on ensuring an AU Member States Common Africa position for CSW65, including priority actions to advance the gender equality priorities, existing commitments and key messages highlighting Africa’s concerns in relation to the CSW65 priority theme “Women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”.

 

Regional consultation in the Latin America and the Caribbean region prior to CSW65

On 23-25 February 2021 UN Women and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) co-organized the 60th Meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean and the Regional Consultation. The regional conference was attended by the Vice Presidents of Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Uruguay as well as Ministers and senior officials from 32 national machineries for the advancement of women in Latin America and the Caribbean, 10 associated States, as well as representatives of the United Nations System and of 260 feminist, women's and civil society organizations. The authorities adopted a declaration demonstrating the capacity for dialogue and consensus of the LAC countries.

 

Expert Group Meeting: Women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls 

UN Women convened a virtual expert group meeting (EGM) on the priority theme, Women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls’, from 5 - 8 October 2020.

Input for the report of the Secretary-General on the review theme

The report, prepared for the sixty-fifth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (15 – 26 March 2021), reviews and assesses the extent to which Member States have implemented the agreed conclusions from the sixtieth session of the Commission, on “Women’s empowerment and the link to sustainable development” covering the two years since the previous review.  As such, it considers the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on women’s empowerment and sustainable development and actions taken by Member States.
