Beijing+20 event in Ireland: A woman’s place is in the world!

Date:

At a conference organized by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission and the National Women’s Council of Ireland on 20 February, UN Women Deputy Executive Director Lakshmi Puri will deliver a keynote speech highlighting Beijing+20 as a game-changer for women’s empowerment and underscoring the need for big, bold changes.

The “A woman’s place is in the world!” conference coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and will examine progress towards achieving the goals of the landmark declaration since 1995. It will seek to fuel action and commitments on women’s rights and equality in Ireland and globally.

High-level speakers will include the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, who will discuss women’s rights as one of the great ethical issues of our time, and Ireland’s former (and first female) President Mary Robinson, who as current President of the Mary Robinson Foundation–Climate Justice, will look at Beijing+20 from an environmental perspective.

The session will take place in Dublin, Ireland and be broadcast via livestream, from 9.30 a.m.–4.30 p.m. GMT.
