UN Women Executive Director to return to Tokyo
Date:
On 28 August, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will address an international gathering of leaders of government, business and civil society at the second World Assembly of Women in Tokyo hosted by the Government of Japan. Ms. Mlambo-Ngcuka will highlight progress achieved in women’s empowerment and outline further steps that must be taken to advance women's rights and gender equality at a global level. She addressed the first World Assembly of Women at its opening session last September.
On 30 August the Executive Director will officially inaugurate the new UN Women Japan Liaison Office in Bunkyo City, Tokyo – the only one of its kind in the region. The office is expected to support strategic partnership building, donor relations, and wide-ranging advocacy to raise awareness of gender equality and trigger action for change with the Government of Japan and a wide spectrum of other actors.
