An interview with Deputy Executive Director Lakshmi Puri on Cities for CEDAW

UN Women Deputy Executive Director Lakshmi Puri was interviewed by Richard Smith, former Editor-in-Chief, CEO and Chairman of Newsweek Magazine, on the Cities for CEDAW (the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women) campaign, a national project to implement CEDAW in U.S. cities, involving the NGO CSW/NY Committee and UN Women’s United States National Committee, ahead of its National Conference on 20 January.

She discussed how UN Women provides technical and financial support to countries around the world to implement the CEDAW Convention, as well as to strengthen laws and local governance. She also highlighted initiatives such as UN Women’s Safe Cities Global Initiative, which the City of New York joined last November.
